Super Bowl 50 generates 25% more sponsorship money

Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events globally. In the United States of America it is THE sporting event of the year. This year’s Super Bowl is going to take place in the San Francisco Bay Area at the newly built Levi’s Stadium. It will also mark the Super Bowl’s 50th anniversary.

However, what matters more than the past is the future of this event. This is why the NFL decided to come to the heart of Silicon Valley. The place is world famous for its inventions and innovations. This is where the future happens.

Three main goals

The Super Bowl 50 Host Committee wants this event to be something the entire Bay Area is proud of. The ambition was to involve and engage both the people living in the area as well as the big tech companies who call the Silicon Valley their home.

The organizers defined three main goals which should help them to excite the population of the Bay Area about the Super Bowl 50:

  • Most giving – 25% of the money which is raised goes to Non-profit organizations based in the Bay Area.
  • Most shared – Sharing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. is going to be massive. All major social media companies are based in Silicon Valley and people there love to use those new communication tools.
  • Most participation – There are numerous opportunities to participate in the event. Not just in the stadium itself but also in the fan village in San Francisco, on Television, Online, and even on your phone.

For the benefit of the area

Super Bowl 50 should be more than a party for a day. The ambition is to have a long term benefit to the Valley. No better to do this than by giving to people in need and the many non-profit organizations which are also an integral part of what the Silicon Valley is about. While the big companies can benefit by being a sponsor, offering new services and presenting their ads, those that need it most will get 25% of all the money raised during the Super Bowl 50 event. Which really means that 25% more money needs to be raised. This additional amount has to be obtained through additional sponsors.

The name of this project is 50fund and it focuses on families, young people and the communities which are living, learning and playing in the area. 50fund invests into the future of the Bay Area. Youth Development, Community Investment and Sustainable Environments are the specific topics.

Silicon Valley companies on board

Google was the first company who jumped on the opportunity. Apple and Intel quickly followed. According to the Host Committee it was easy to convince those three companies. The reason why they were on board that quick was not the huge branding opportunity. These companies care about the area where they are based and their employees live in. To provide services to the Bay area and to optimize where their people live was the reason why they have signed up to be a sponsor.

The Host Committee is convinced that for those companies to be a sponsor at the Super Bowl 50 is just another way to give back. Those companies have all long traditions of generous giving. Google in particular is going to provide their transport vehicles during the days of the Super Bowl event in addition to their sponsoring.

Other renowned sponsors

Furthermore there are also a lot of other founding legacy partners like: San Francisco 49ers, Chevron, Dignity Health, Boston Consulting Group, Hewlett Packard, Intuit, Kaiser Permanente, Levi’s, Old Navy, Optum, San Francisco Travel, SAP, Seagate, ValueAct Capital and Yahoo. Boston Consulting Group did not contribute in cash but cooperated with the Host Committee and created all the templates for the organization and helped to build the credibility and brand of the Committee especially in negotiations with the NFL.

Other important partners are destinations like Napa Valley, Sonoma County and Pebble Beach. In the space of transportation Uber also signed up as a partner. This company which has mostly local drivers ensures that all the visitors will get in touch with the people of the Bay Area.

Historical sport milestone

The fact that the Host Committee could unite and mobilize the entire Bay Area including companies and the people of Silicon Valley for the Super Bowl 50 guarantees that this sport spectacle will become another milestone in the history of sports in the United States of America.
